BLUEFIELDS
SOUNDSYSTEM
is building the first recording studio in one of the hidden meccas of
the reggae world.
Bluefields,
a smuggler's run that lies on the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, has
been impacted by war, crippled by poverty, and devastated by natural
disaster, all of this on top of a torrid history of slave and drug trade.
Despite all these adversities, hope for Bluefields lies within the Bluefields
SoundSystem.
Bluefields
is considered to be the reggae capital of Central America, its rich
roots in island culture and music have continued to uplift the people
through its hard times. The Bluefields SoundSystem serves as an important
creative outlet for the people of Bluefields.
KALI BOOM is a gifted musician
erupting onto the longstanding Bluefields scene. His life story resonates
with the struggles of the region, uplifting and electrifying all the
people. He weaves together classic soca, reggae, and native garifuna
beats to make a sound unique to Bluefields. He is a musician that represents
the voice of the people.
BLUEFIELDS
SOUNDSYSTEM is bringing Kali Boom and Bluefields to the international
stage. This June we
are returning to Nicaragua with a film crew, to document the establishment
of the studio and the recording of Kali Boom's first album.
